Our club is comprised of 170 members (2013), the majority of whom are hunters, anglers and shooters. We are also members of the B.C. Wildlife Federation which is the oldest and one of the largest conservation organizations in the Province.
Our club is active in the community. For example, during 2013 we contributed funds towards the food bank, rebuilding of the Lumby cenotaph, two bursaries to the school district for student performance, plus our open to the public pig roast associated with Lumby Days. We also make available our tables and chairs to like organizations situated in our community.
We have for over 12 years held an event called Fishing Foreverâ„¢, where we host a fishing event at Mabel Lake Provincial Park for approximately one hundred physically and mentally challenged people and their caregivers. We hope, by example, to illustrate that there is a fun day in the outdoors after a handicap. Our volunteers enjoy assisting these folks in their fishing endeavors and enjoy cooking hamburgers and hot dogs for all. The Fishing Forevertm event is co-hosted with the Vernon fish and Game Club.
We are holding our Trophy and Fundraising Banquet on March 8th, 2014 at the Whitevalley Community Centre. Tickets are available at the Cold Beer and Wine Store in Lumby, while Darlene has some at the Galaxie Powder coating on Hwy 6, and Dwayne has some at the Bloom Wellness Center. We could use some more wild meat. You can contact Otto for a pick up at 549-1355.
Early in the year we hold a fishing derby at Mabel Lake Provincial Park which, for several years in a row, has sold out. We even fill the overflow camping area of the park. This years derby will be held, May 2nd, 3rd,& 4th.
